Steenbock’s on Orchard is in the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, a vibrant research center on the UW campus, with plant-filled atriums and plenty of space to study or just hang out. Our dining room features sleek, modern decor, and opens to our covered patio through a large folding glass wall–when the weather cooperates. Walk in or make a reservation for a quick lunch, a happy hour drink with colleagues, or an intimate dinner date. In addition to our main dining room, we offer small and large venues for private events, from intimate meetings to full-out parties, cocktail hours, and weddings.

Our menu is designed to feature local, regional, and seasonal ingredients at their best. Chef Tim Van Doren uses fresh, local, organic, and sustainably produced ingredients whenever possible to create seasonal lunch and dinner menus. Everything produced in the kitchen is made from scratch, with care—it’s a big part of how we offer guests the highest-quality, most flavorful meals every day.
DAILY HAPPY HOUR & WEDNESDAY TRIVIA
Our Happy Hour runs 3-7pm every day we’re open, Monday through Friday, and we host trivia every Wednesday evening starting at 4:30pm. If our space’s greenery doesn’t quite scratch your outdoor itch, we’ll open glass wall windows for outdoor seating under our large, covered patio, one of the only covered patios in the city!

and discover at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery
The Wisconsin Institute for Discovery provides public space and two research institutes where campus and community members can immerse themselves in science and creativity. The Discovery Building is dedicated to helping the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus and the community explore new ways to conduct and share research and creative ideas. Steenbock’s diners have the unique opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art building before and after dinner, and Union South is conveniently located across the street from our restaurant.
